What Breaks My Heart

Baby Girl,

You asked Me to break your heart for what breaks Mine. Do you want to know what really breaks My heart? My children, My precious little babies whom I handcrafted in My image, are looking like cookie-cutter images of the world around them.

My children are living in spiritual povertyTHAT is what breaks My heart.

When you look at people’s lives with your natural eyes, you feel bad for them because of their natural circumstances. You hear about their financial situation, home life, history, health, lack of worthwhile friendships, and you just feel bad for them. You are comparing their lives to yours and, if you judge that their situation is less agreeable than yours, you pity them. Look that word up.

Pity = feel sorrow and compassion caused by the suffering and misfortunes of others

The problem is you pity the wrong things. The wrong things break your heart.

Is your life so incredible that it is the standard to which others should aspire to achieve? This might come as a surprise to you but there are people who secretly pity you because your dishwasher is held together by packing tape, the door shelf in your refrigerator is held together by black Gorilla glue tape, and the front burner on your stove only works on high. Some whom you have invited into your home pity you, assuming you must want something nicer but simply cannot afford it.

They are unaware that you are content because, in your circumstances, they cannot imagine being content. They are unaware that you have sufficient financial resources to replace your stained 25-year-old carpet, get all new appliances, and do whatever it is they would do to make your house a home THEY would be willing to live in. They pity you when they hear you had a stillborn son. They pity you when they hear about your prolapsed bladder and rectum.

You’re sitting around pitying others and they are sitting around pitying you. Pity is based on perceived lack.

You told someone recently that you are grateful for all the lessons you learned in your 21 dysfunctional years of marriage because it all brought you to the depth of love and respect you share with your husband now. Is that true? Have you forgotten how many times you knelt next to your bed sobbing and begging Me to take your life because you didn’t think you could do it anymore?

If you had it all to do again, would you? Yes?

What about Zander? You said that, knowing your pregnancy with Zander would end in stillbirth, you would not opt out. Almost 17 years after the fact, you can see with great clarity that I was with you through that entire season. You can see how I took one of the most painful experiences of your life and have worked it out ultimately for your good and My Glory. It is the hope of eternity in you that says, “Yes, I’d do it all again.”

We could sit here all day talking about the painful parts of your past, like being molested and nearly raped, struggling so badly with body image, eating disorders, low-self-worth, ADHD and bipolar symptoms, all the uncomfortable physical issues, and surgeries.  We could talk about all the people who took advantage of your kindness, were emotionally abusive, and those who ended up rejecting you.

If we wanted cause for a pity party, I bet we could come up with some pretty good reasons - and yet YOU pity others in their natural circumstances.

Do you know what I pity?

I pity those who have not had hardship bring them to their knees.

I pity those who have never cried out to Me and found Me faithful in time of need.

I pity My self-sufficient children who are so blessed financially and in life circumstances that they are unaware they are missing anything at all.

If you truly want Me to break your heart for what breaks Mine, you would be more brokenhearted for the wealthy, self-sufficient atheists in your community than the faithful followers of Christ in Nigeria who are being executed every two hours on average, simply for believing My Word to be true.

For those who are faithfully walking with Me, fear will not cause them to renounce My Name. They are living under the constant threat of death and yet, the peace in their spirits is a quiet resolve that “to live is Christ and to die is gain.”

The way that people have given themselves over to the suggestions of the enemy… the anger, the hate, the blatant sin, the worshiping of idols both man and manmade… all these things make Me sad but, when My children look like the lost, broken, sinful, sad, confused, angry children of the world, THAT is what breaks My heart.

If My children, who were reborn into My image, the temples of My Holy Spirit, were to live as children of LIGHT, the darkness would not have a chance!

Imagine a world where everyone who believes on the Name of Jesus and the blood shed on the cross learned to follow the leading of Holy Spirit.

Imagine what would happen if My children all understood that the healing power that was in Jesus, the fullness of that power, lives in them and they have access to it. The powers of darkness would FIGHT as the medical industry would suffer financial loss and eventually go under.

Imagine what would happen if every one of My children understood that satan only has the power of influence and that, when they resist him, he MUST flee.

Imagine what would happen if every one of My children was more concerned about their children’s spiritual health than their happiness.

Imagine what would happen if every Christian church in the world saw each other as equals and stood united in purpose and passion as one. The testimony of Jesus Christ would be so powerful that no one could resist, and the physical buildings that we call “church” could not contain the converts.

If you don’t want your life to break My heart, do not live in spiritual poverty. Walk so confidently in the freedom that was purchased for you that the world says, “There’s something different about her,” and other believers say to themselves, “That girl looks just like my Daddy.”

Let your life be marked by My unconditional LOVE that REFUSES to back down - even in the face of persecution. Let My joy be the light in your eyes. Be known for your kind, gentle, patient, and faithful demeanor. Walk with integrity, guarding your soul and your flesh with self-discipline and self-control.

Do not EVER accept an affirmation of your character without pointing to the source of that character. You spent your whole life trying, in your own power, to be “that person” but it was only by the power of My Spirit that you look like Me. Don’t take this the wrong way, but you are not special. There is not something about you that I would offer you more than I offer to everyone else. The only difference between you and those still living in spiritual poverty is surrender.

With that all being said… you know you’re My favorite, right?

Daddy

Galatians 3:13-14

Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”) that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
